Clinical Significance :
Lipoprotein(a) is a complex, cholesterol-carrying particle in the blood related to LDL, which when present in high levels may lead to the development of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, independent of LDL and ApoB. Lp(a) is structural ly different from LDL. While the wide differences in Lp(a) level is seen among individuals and are largely due to hered itary factors and cannot be control led by dietary or life style changes. The quantification of LP(a) in serum or plasma is important for identification of ind ividuals at risk for developing atherosclerosis.
Intended Use :
This reagent is intended for in vitro quantitative determination of Lipoprotein(a) in serum.
