Product Name :
Prealbumin
Company :
Intended Use
This reagent is intended for the in vitro quantitative determination of preal bumin inhuman serum by nephlometric immunoassay.
-Nephelometry methodology
-Linear up to 75 mg/dL
-Ready to use reagents
-No calibration required
-Lower detection level 9 mg/dL
Clinical Significance
Preal bumin (transthyretin), an acute phase retinol binding protein is synthesized by the liver. Prealbumin is a transport protein for thyroxin. It binds with retinol and forms protein/retinol complex. Increased levels are found in prednisone therapy and glomerular and tubular proteinuria. Decreased levels are found in severe liver diseases, malnutrition, congenital deficiencies, inflammation and cirrhosis. Half- life of Preal bumin is approximately 2 days making Preal buminmore timely indicator of protein status.
Principle
Antibodies to Preal buminin the reagent are combined with Preal bumin in the patients serum, forming immune complexes. The immune complexes cause an increase in the light scattering with the concentration of Preal bumin in the serum.
